    Our 1” to 2” Differential Shafts are direct friction style differential shafts. With low tension and easy roll positioning, this shaft can fit cores from 1” to 2” diameters. It can also have face lengths up to 18” and is ideally suited for cores in ¼” increments.

     

    Features

    The 1” to 2” Differential Shaft has three rows of external gripping elements spaced at 120 degrees and is able to slit rolls as narrow as 1/2″ wide. It features a multiple bladder design that is a vast improvement over previous air or mechanical designs. Our differential shaft does not have any weak journal connections since it is made entirely from one piece of solid steel. This kind of one piece design is capable of holding more weight with less deflection.

     

    You can expect extremely low friction from the abrasion-resistant elements with this shaft. We have placed the abrasion-resistant elements to impart sensitive resistance to the core ID. There are also expanders along the entire length of the shaft, which allows for one or multiple cores to be placed anywhere along the shaft at the same time.

    Convertech’s Cheap Chucks are an inexpensive way to adapt a standard air shaft to hold a larger diameter core. They are made with high quality chuck construction and heavy duty materials. This gives the “cheap” chucks superior performance in rewind and unwind applications. They are best suited for operations using rolls with metal, fiber, or cardboard cores.

     

    Features

    The Cheap chucks feature a lightweight design and are available with core stops and split clamps to protect the shaft that they are mounted on. They have an internal bladder so that it will not over expand or swell over time and protects from cuts and wear and tear. We have connector kits available to string multiple cheap chucks together. These chucks can be used with a Convertech Through Style Shaft.

    The Convertech Concentric Shaft is available in many variations.  Some are simple air shafts with larger body diameters or ledges to help hold the core more centered (concentric) on the shaft.  Others are air-mechanical where a piston pushed mechanical expanders that center the roll.  Yet others are fully mechanical and can be used in vacuum environments.

     

    Features

    The Concentric Shaft is truly a custom shaft that fits your purpose and ensures a smooth running core. This shaft has specific designs for wide and narrow web, light and heavy duty, and high torque shafts. The air, mechanical or mixed designs also assure concentric rotation of the cores. There are also lug and leaf styles available depending on the application.

     

    The Concentric Shaft can be designed with face lengths up to 80” and diameters from 70mm to 6” but is able to use an adapter to hold up to 12” diameter cores. Some Convertech Concentric Shaft features a fail save operation, where their natural state is expended and air is used to retract the expanders to allow roll changes.

    shaft type. It has multiple bladders to provide excellent grip at
    any diameter. This shaft also features our GripLock™ lug design that will not damage cores.

    The Continuous Lug Shaft is for narrow to wide web shafts and can be designed with diameters from 1.5” to 16” and face lengths to 150”. Concentric and centered versions are available depending on your needs.

     

    It also has our GripLock™ Lug Design. These shafts are designed with floating lugs that secure rolls firmly. It also prevents cores from slipping. The GripLock™ Lug Design has increased the core gripping power of our Continuous Lug shaft to improve roll quality and reduce core damage, while keeping the shaft design efficient and effective. The internal differential slip allows for running rolls with a wide range of core sizes and types without using cones, core stops, or spacers.     Standard sizes available for Convertech’s Pneumatic- Mechanical High- Torque Core Chuck range from 3″ to 12″ diameters. The body of the chuck and the lugs are available in steel only. This core chuck is available in flange or cantilevered type mountings. When running different core diameters, Convertech offers interchangeable adapters which can be fitted on one base chuck.
